Also, our finest hours were Bobby Simone’s death arc. Just the crudeness and the crassness of that scene, those words and that gesture (with) me grabbing my crotch I thought set the tone so perfectly for what we’re (going to get) from this guy. Why?Ī: When I uttered my words of love, ‘pissy little b-’ to (ADA) Sylvia Costas. Q: What was your favorite Sipowicz moment. For their sakes, it would have been nice to continue the show to give that young cast another opportunity to come through with some strong storylines. On the flip side, I was very encouraged by the new characters, the wonderful young actors who stepped up to the plate so strongly. Two years ago, we set our sights on 12 years. Q: If Charlotte didn’t leave and you were able to still play that side would you have been gung-ho for another season?Ī: To quote my boss, I think it’s better to leave the party an hour early than an hour late. That was a huge side that I loved playing. With that huge element gone from the makeup of Andy Sipowicz, (it) took a lot of enthusiasm out of it for me. That limited us on the amount of times we could go home with Andy, and you can only go home so many times and find Connie’s taking a nap or she’s out running chores or she’s doing shopping. My knee-jerk reaction when I heard that was, ‘How are we gonna kill her off?’ (Instead) we continued as though she’s there, but we just won’t see her. ![]() This last year, I felt badly about the lack of home involvement in our storytelling because Charlotte Ross (who played Sipowicz’s wife, Connie McDowell) chose not to come back the final season. We could’ve continued, but it would’ve been a different Andy in a very different capacity. We explored many different sides of his makeup. I think that we had told many storylines about him. That was fulfilling to me to get that involved in a man who could be physical and yet also very emotionally touched on the inside.Ī: Yes. ![]() He was a roughly perceived man who actually was so much more than what you saw on the outside. I loved the questioning of himself and exploring of his own emotions. A: (pauses) So much that I can’t begin to talk about it.
